Joan's art career started at the early age of 7 when her father bought her a coloring book and spent considerable time teaching her how to color one cartoon.  From there she majored in Art in high school winning many contests, including an International poster contest.  At age 18, after having graduated from Omaha Art School for Commercial Artists, she was offered a job to teach, but was relocating to California and had to decline.

In her early career she had her own business called Your Pet In Art, where she did animal pet portraits for private clients. That business spanned several years until she relocated to Washington State in 1976.  However, her art career went on from there, and as a Freelancer, she designed Corporate Logos, did other art projects, including book illustrations for a Role-Playing Game. Her major employment at the time was as a graphic designer and she worked in the publishing business until retiring in 2012.

Joan's expertise lies in oil and acrylic paint, hard pastel. pen and ink, and in pencil (both regular and colored).  She states she has" dabbled" in watercolor but I beg to differ.  I could only wish to "dabble" as beautifully as she does.  Joan has also done murals, crafts, made jewelry, and did some metal work and sculpture. She is happy to be included as one of An Artful Touch’s instructors and hopes to inspire artists and share her knowledge to better their art experience.
